EducAir STEM Trip # 3: Carihi Secondary School, Campbell River, BC
Valery and I are always happy to meet Bill when we land at CYPK airport. We have lots of experiments ready for the students.
This is our second visit to Carihi Secondary School in Campbell River. We keep returning to this school, as we know that their Physics Teacher - Mr. Bill Deagle inspires many students to study physics. One testament to that is that when we walk around town, many of his former students or their parents greet him and many students recall how much they enjoyed his physics classes. Thus, it does not surprise us that every year, Carihi Secondary bring large teams of students to UBC Physics Olympics. We can see student interest in science when we come. We always have great questions from them. And these questions often inspire us to reconsider the experiments we do. This year, we came up with new experiments and built new demonstrations. Even though we have to wake up very early to fly to Campbell River and Valery spends days planning this trip, we are very excited to visit school all across BC and support amazing physics teachers and students.
Valery is preparing our high speed camera apparatus. We have a number of demos, including Chladni plates, standing waves and of course a resonating wine glass that breaks in the peak of resonance.
