Our second EducAir trip was to LV Rogers Secondary School in Nelson, BC. We were invited by Mrs. Angie McTague to visit grades 11 and 12 students. It was a very exciting trip as we have never landed in Nelson and it has a rather interesting terrain (mountains by the airport). In addition, it was a rather hot day. However, all went very well and we enjoyed the visit immensely. The students were so engaged and we hardly noticed how the three lesson we have prepared flew by. We were very inspired by the students and by their teacher, as you could see how engaged they were, how they were encouraged to ask questions and how these students were involved in science. We know this school from the UBC Physics Olympics, as the students and Mrs. McTague drive more than 600 km one way to come to UBC to participate in the event. What we saw in that school shows how how much a difference an inspiring teacher can make in any school, especially in a remote school. It was a very inspirational visit for us.
Most importantly, we would like to thank the Scientists and Innovators in the School organization, the Department of Physics and Astronomy at UBC, and our Aircraft Mechanic from MD Aircraft Maintenance Ltd. - Mr. Mike Droege, who helped us to make this visit possible.
